In het uittekenen en uitvoeren van het daklozenbeleid in Gent is er zeer regelmatig op verschillende niveaus overleg. Zo zitten in de werkgroep dak- en thuislozen o.a. Stad Gent, OCMW Gent, CAW, Huize Triest - Gemeenschapshuis Tabor en het Straathoekwerk maandelijks samen om ervoor te zorgen dat de daklozen in Gent de best mogelijke dienst- en hulpverlening krijgen binnen de mogelijkheden waarover de diverse organisaties beschikken.
Dit omhelst concreet op dit ogenblik o.a. de inrichting van een bijkomende winteropvang voor daklozen in de Academiestraat (40 bedden + 10 kinderbedjes) bovenop de bestaande bedden in de Gasmeterlaan (25 bedden) en Huize Triest - Gemeenschapshuis Tabor (25 bedden). Daarnaast is er inzake dagopvang, daklozen en gezonde voeding, douchemogelijkheden, wasmachines en andere hulpverlening een netwerk van (semi)-professionele organisaties actief. Elke winter zien we opnieuw dat burgers bezorgd zijn om de daklozen en hiervoor allerlei initiatieven willen opzetten. Deze initiatieven zijn vaak zeer goed bedoeld, maar creëren een vals professionalisme, niet ingeloste verwachtingen, ad-hoc oplossingen, onzekere dienst- en hulpverlening.
In onze visie, bieden deze initiatieven dus nauwelijks structurele en/of professionele meerwaarde. Mogelijks zorgen ze zelfs voor verwarring met het reguliere aanbod.
We denken dat burgers die uit humanitaire overwegingen iets willen doen voor de daklozen – wat we ten zeerste appreciëren en ook bewust willen aanmoedigen – dit beter doen door o.a. volgende initiatieven :
1. Meewerken als vrijwilliger bij een (semi-)professionele organisatie. Concreet kunnen ze hiervoor contact opnemen met CAW, OCMW Gent, straathoekwerk Gent of Huize Triest - Gemeenschapshuis Tabor.
2. Daklozen de weg te wijzen naar de (semi-)professionele organisaties. Voor nachtopvang kunnen ze het centraal reservatie-nummer 0800 62227 doorgeven. Ook in de ‘gids voor daklozen in Gent’ staan tientallen organisaties die voor daklozen open staan.
3. Financieel de bestaande (semi-)professionele organisaties steunen. Hiervoor nemen ze best rechtstreeks contact op met de organisaties. (VoorHuize Triest - Gemeenschapshuis Tabor, klik hier...)
4. Uitdragen van een positieve houding en beeldvorming ten overstaan van de daklozen.
We hopen dat u hiervoor begrip heeft. Aarzel niet om ons te contacteren indien u hierover verder een gesprek wil.

A Gand se tiennent des consultations régulières à différents niveaux concernant la conception et la mise en œuvre des politiques des sans-abri. Le groupe de travail des sans-abri inclut la ville de Gand, Gand CPAS, TC et la, Maison Triest – Maison Communautaire Tabor. Ils se réunissent mensuellement pour assurer aux sans-abri à Gand les meilleurs services et assistances possibles selon la capacité des diverses organisations.
Cela englobe à l'heure actuelle concrètement la mise en place d'un abri d'hiver supplémentaire pour les personnes sans-abri dans la rue Academy (40 lits + 10 lits pour enfants), en plus des lits existants dans le Gasmeterlaan (25 lits) et dans la Maison Triest – Maison Communautaire Tabor (25 lits).
A côté de cela un réseau d’organisations (semi)-professionnelles s’occupe de l’accueil des sans-abri pendant la journée et leur offre de la nourriture saine, la possibilité de prendre une douche, la mise à leur disposition des machines à laver et d’autres formes de soutien. Chaque année nous voyons que pendant l’hiver les citoyens veulent s’occuper des sans-abri en prenant toutes sortes d’initiatives pour les aider. Ces initiatives sont souvent très bien intentionnées, mais elles créent une fausse professionnalisme, des attentes non satisfaites, des solutions ad hoc, des services et de l'assistance dont on n’est pas sûr.
À notre avis, ces initiatives n’offrent guère un surplus de valeur structurelle et / ou professionnelle .Elles risquent même d’entrer en conflit avec les offres régulières.
Aux citoyens qui, pour des raisons humanitaires, veulent faire quelque chose pour les sans-abri – ce que nous apprécions et encourageons pleinement – nous proposons ci-dessous quelques initiatives qui d’après nous sont plus efficaces:
1. S’engager comme bénévole dans une organisation (semi-) professionnel. Concrètement il serait bon de prendre contact avec les TCA, CPAS de Gand, la sensibilisation Gand ou Maison Triest – Maison Communautaire Tabor
2. Envoyer les sans-abri vers des organisations (semi-) professionnelles. Pour les aider à trouver un abri il serait bien de leur passer le numéro de réservation central 0800 62227. Et vous pouvez aussi les référer au «Guide pour les sans-abri à Gand » dans lequel se trouvent des dizaines d'organisations qui sont prêtes à les accueillir.
3. Soutenir financièrement les organisations (semi)-professionnelle existantes. Pour cela, nous vous conseillons d’entrer en contact direct avec ces organisations. In Ghent very regular consultations at various levels are held in order to design and implement the policies for the homeless .

The workgroup for homeless includes the City of Ghent, Ghent CPAS, CAW, House Triest – Community House Tabor and Outreach. On monthly basis they gather to ensure that the homeless in Ghent receive the best possible service and assistance within the capacities of the various organizations.
At this time of the year this embraces concretely the establishment of an additional winter shelter for homeless people in the Academy Street (40 beds + 10 cots) in addition to the existing beds in the Gasmeterlaan (25 beds) and House Triest – Community House Tabor (25 beds). There is also a network of (semi-) professional organizations active to assure day care, healthy food for the homeless, shower facilities, washing machines and other means of support. The full list of those organizations can be found in” the Guide for the homeless in Ghent”.
Every winter we see that citizens are concerned about the homeless and provide several initiatives. These initiatives are often very well intentioned, but create a false professionalism, unfulfilled expectations, ad hoc solutions, insecure services and assistance.
In our vision, these initiatives hardly offer structural and / or professional gain. It is even possible that they cause confusion with the regular offerings.
We propose that citizens who, for humanitarian reasons, want to do something for the homeless – which we highly appreciate and want to encourage – take one of the following initiatives:
1. Contribute as a volunteer in a (semi-) professional organization. Concretely, they can contact CAW, OCMW Ghent, outreach Gent or House Triest – Community House Tabor.
2. Show the homeless the way to the (semi-) professional organizations. If they search for a shelter pass the central reservation number 0800 62227 on to them. You can also refer to the "Guide for the homeless in Ghent" in which they can find dozens of organizations ready to welcome them.
